Why a speedometer fits a one-time price
A speedometer doesn't need servers, cloud accounts, or content updates to keep working. Location is processed on the device, so there is no ongoing cost to pass on as a subscription and no reason to sell ad space next to the speed number.

If you want speed-limit alerts, a route map, background tracking, or an Apple Watch app, several free apps include some of those, usually alongside ads or paid upgrades.
